Why it is here
- The song grew out of a home recording experiment—Greenbaum's Telecaster was run through a fuzz-tone circuit powered by a dying 9-volt battery to create its signature distorted guitar sound, backed by the gospel hand percussion and vocals of the Stovall Sisters. source
- It's considered one of the earliest examples of boogie rock, blending blues, gospel and hard rock, and John Lennon told Rolling Stone in his 1970 Lennon Remembers interview that he liked the song. source
- The original recording has since been used in films including Apollo 13, Guardians of the Galaxy, Ocean's Eleven and Suicide Squad, and in television ads for Kellogg's and Nike. source
