Why it's here
"Take On Me" was a-ha's debut single and reached No. 1 on the US Billboard Hot 100 on 19 October 1985, the Norwegian trio's only chart-topper there. [1] Its rotoscope-animated video, directed by Steve Barron, won six prizes at the 1986 MTV Video Music Awards, which keeps the 1985 recording in continuous catalogue rotation rather than tied to any 2026 news event. [2] The song was reissued as a 40th-anniversary limited-edition 12-inch for Record Store Day (catalogue 081227808570), an anniversary campaign around the single and the Hunting High and Low album. [3]
