The song was inspired by Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus hearing Donna Summer's 'Hot Stuff', which shaped its disco riffs and melody. [1] Its planned US and Canadian release was cancelled by Atlantic Records despite promotional copies already being pressed, likely due to the backlash against disco following Disco Demolition Night. [2] In 2018, the Financial Times called it 'a masterpiece of Scandinavian frankness' and Abba's 'most sexually liberated song', noting it had become a gay anthem. [3]
