The song, which took Tom Scholz five years to complete, features a guitar solo that unusually incorporates mordents and inverted mordents more typically used in baroque music. [1] It has been recognized on the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame's list of '500 Songs That Shaped Rock and Roll' and ranked number 212 on Rolling Stone's '500 Greatest Songs of All Time' in 2021. [2] It was made available as a playable track in the Rock Band video game series and covered for the original Guitar Hero soundtrack. [3]
