Momentum
This song has not appeared on a Rotation chart, so it has no score and no receipts. The rank history below is the ledger; a score is only published once the momentum run puts it on a chart.
Why it's here
Springsteen wrote the song overnight after producer Jon Landau pushed him for a hit single, capturing his isolation and frustration following the success of The River. [1] The recording won Springsteen his first Grammy Award, for Best Rock Vocal Performance, and was voted "Single of the Year" in the 1984 Rolling Stone readers poll. [2] The music video, directed by Brian De Palma and shot during the opening night of the Born in the U.S.A. Tour, features Springsteen pulling a young Courteney Cox on stage to dance, a scene that won the MTV Video Music Award for Best Stage Performance. [3]
