Why it's here
The song originated as music for a 1970 Crocker-Citizens National Bank television commercial that the Carpenters heard and sought to turn into a full recording. [1] It became the group's second consecutive Top 10 single, peaking at No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 and No. 1 on the Cash Box chart, and spent seven weeks atop the Adult Contemporary chart. [2] It was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 1998 and later included on Rolling Stone's list of "The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time" in 2011. [3]
