Momentum
This song has not appeared on a Rotation chart, so it has no score and no receipts. The rank history below is the ledger; a score is only published once the momentum run puts it on a chart.
Why it's here
Richie wrote "Easy" hoping to give the Commodores another crossover hit following the success of "Just to Be Close to You," which had topped the Hot Soul Singles chart and reached number seven on the Hot 100. [1] The song's ballad about relief after a breakup, with its 'easy like Sunday morning' refrain, was described by Richie as evoking the feel of small Southern towns like his hometown of Tuskegee, Alabama. [2] The track has been sampled by Geto Boys on "Six Feet Deep" (1993) and by Cam'ron on "Hey Ma" (2002). [3]
In culture
Every place this record has lived. A solid chip states a fact and carries the citation that earns it; a dashed one is a connection somebody drew, and carries their name instead.
