Momentum

This song has not appeared on a Rotation chart, so it has no score and no receipts. The rank history below is the ledger; a score is only published once the momentum run puts it on a chart.

Why it's here

Neil Young wrote the song in direct reaction to the May 4, 1970 Kent State shootings after seeing photos of the incident in Life Magazine. [1] The band recorded it live in just a few takes, with David Crosby reportedly crying when they finished the take, and his keening cries of "Four!", "How many more?" and "Why?" audible in the fadeout. [2] The song was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2009. [3]

In culture

Every place this record has lived. A solid chip states a fact and carries the citation that earns it; a dashed one is a connection somebody drew, and carries their name instead.
