Momentum

This song has not appeared on a Rotation chart, so it has no score and no receipts. The rank history below is the ledger; a score is only published once the momentum run puts it on a chart.

Why it's here

Jimmy Webb wrote the song within hours of Glen Campbell's urgent studio request for a follow-up to "By the Time I Get to Phoenix," and Campbell said hearing the demo made him cry because he was homesick. [1] The recording features members of the Wrecking Crew, including bassist Carol Kaye, whose descending six-note intro and improvised bass lick became defining elements of the arrangement. [2] The song was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2000 and preserved by the Library of Congress in the National Recording Registry in 2019 for being culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant. In culture

Every place this record has lived. A solid chip states a fact and carries the citation that earns it; a dashed one is a connection somebody drew, and carries their name instead.

Every date here is the date the source chart covers, never the date we fetched it. Sources publish on different lags: the Spotify mirror runs about two days behind, TurnTable publishes weekly.
