Momentum
This song has not appeared on a Rotation chart, so it has no score and no receipts. The rank history below is the ledger; a score is only published once the momentum run puts it on a chart.
Why it's here
The song was Motown's first release by The Corporation—Berry Gordy, Freddie Perren, Alphonso Mizell, and Deke Richards—and the first Jackson 5 single, featuring an 11-year-old Michael Jackson on lead vocal. [1] It became the Jackson 5's first number-one hit and was performed live on their milestone December 14, 1969 appearance on The Ed Sullivan Show. [2] It has since been sampled over 90 times by hip-hop artists including Jay-Z and The Notorious B.I.G., and was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 1999. [3]
In culture
Every place this record has lived. A solid chip states a fact and carries the citation that earns it; a dashed one is a connection somebody drew, and carries their name instead.
