The song was written for the 1984 film Footloose and spent three weeks at number one on the Billboard Hot 100, becoming Kenny Loggins' only chart-topper. [1] It was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Original Song at the 1985 ceremony. [2] In 2018 it was selected for preservation in the National Recording Registry by the Library of Congress as being culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant. [3]
