Why it's here

The song was written by Jimmy Page and Robert Plant at the remote Bron-Yr-Aur cottage and finished with lyrics penned by a log fire at Headley Grange, giving it an unusually intimate origin for a rock epic. [1] It features John Paul Jones on four overdubbed recorder tracks and John Bonham's drums entering only at 4:18, building through three distinct sections from acoustic guitar to a hard rock finale with Page's extended guitar solo. [2] In 2023 the Library of Congress selected it for preservation in the National Recording Registry for its cultural, historical, and aesthetic importance. [3]
