Why it's here
The song was rewritten at the request of Flashdance director Adrian Lyne and music supervisor Phil Ramone to fit the film's home-workout training montage. [1] Its music video, built from film scenes and put into heavy MTV rotation, helped drive the single to number one and became a landmark example of using music videos to promote a movie. [2] The song earned Grammy nominations for Record of the Year, Best Pop Vocal Performance, Male, and Song of the Year, plus a Best Original Song nomination at the Academy Awards and Golden Globes. [3]
