The song was originally written with Beyoncé in mind before being offered to Cyrus. [1] It became Cyrus's first number-one single on the Billboard Hot 100, and its later return to number one after nine weeks set the record for the largest gap between number-one sittings in a single Hot 100 chart run. [2] Its music video, directed by Terry Richardson and inspired by Sinéad O'Connor's "Nothing Compares 2 U," set the Vevo record for most views in 24 hours with 19.3 million. [3]
