Momentum
This song has not appeared on a Rotation chart, so it has no score and no receipts. The rank history below is the ledger; a score is only published once the momentum run puts it on a chart.
Why it's here
The 12-inch used an Emulator 1 sampler, sampling choir sounds from Kraftwerk's "Uranium" and even the band's own flatulence and sneezes as they learned the machine. [1] Its packaging was a die-cut sleeve designed by Peter Saville and Brett Wickens to resemble a 5.25-inch floppy disk, so expensive to produce that Factory Records lost money on every copy sold. [2] It is cited as the best-selling 12-inch single in history, with UK sales of 1.16 million copies across all formats. [3]
In culture
Every place this record has lived. A solid chip states a fact and carries the citation that earns it; a dashed one is a connection somebody drew, and carries their name instead.
