"Purple Rain" is the title track of Prince's 1984 semi-autobiographical film "Purple Rain," in which he stars as a musician performing the song. [1] The single first entered the UK Official Singles Chart on 22 September 1984, part of the chart history that keeps the song appearing on 'on this day' chart surfaces decades later. [2]
