"Losing My Religion," released in February 1991, remains R.E.M.'s highest-charting single in the United States, peaking at No. 4 on the Billboard Hot 100 and winning the 1992 Grammy for Best Short Form Music Video. [1] Its parent album, Out of Time, reached its 35th anniversary on March 12, 2026, the same calendar date on which R.E.M. was later inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. [2] The song is also the band's designated reunion piece: R.E.M.'s original lineup regrouped for the first time in 17 years in June 2024 to perform an acoustic "Losing My Religion" at the Songwriters Hall of Fame ceremony. [3]
