Momentum

This song has not appeared on a Rotation chart, so it has no score and no receipts. The rank history below is the ledger; a score is only published once the momentum run puts it on a chart.

Why it's here

It was the first single by Sly and the Family Stone to reach the Billboard Pop Singles Top 10, popularizing the band's sound that would be emulated across black music and dubbed 'psychedelic soul'. [1] It was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 1998. [2] The track brought together four co-lead singers and both black and white musicians in the same band, blending rock guitar, a funk bassline from Larry Graham, syncopated drums, gospel-styled organ, and horns. In culture

Every place this record has lived. A solid chip states a fact and carries the citation that earns it; a dashed one is a connection somebody drew, and carries their name instead.
