The Association's recording was made with members of the Wrecking Crew and became one of the band's five top-ten hits of the late 1960s, hitting number one on the Cashbox chart. [1] Its success made the Association a top concert act and led to performances on The Ed Sullivan Show, The Andy Williams Show, American Bandstand, The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson, and other major TV variety programs of the era. [2] BMI recognized the song in 1999 as the second most-played song in history, with more than seven million performances, ranking it between "You've Lost That Lovin' Feelin'" and "Yesterday." [3]
