The track samples the Isley Brothers' 1983 song "Between the Sheets," giving it a smooth R&B-inflected groove that critics singled out as distinctive. [1] It became the Notorious B.I.G.'s first top 10 hit on the Billboard Hot 100 and was certified platinum after selling over one million copies domestically. [2] The song earned a Grammy Award nomination for Best Rap Solo Performance in 1996 and was later ranked among Rolling Stone's greatest hip-hop songs. [3]
