Momentum
This song has not appeared on a Rotation chart, so it has no score and no receipts. The rank history below is the ledger; a score is only published once the momentum run puts it on a chart.
Why it's here
The track is built from a sample of Herb Alpert's 1979 hit "Rise," cleared personally by co-writer Randy Alpert after he had turned down artists like Ice Cube, Eazy-E, and Vanilla Ice for the same sample. [1] Its chorus melody and title are drawn from a lyrical section of Slick Rick's "La Di Da Di," sung by Pamela Long of Total though she went uncredited. [2] Released five days before Biggie's murder, it became the fifth song by a credited artist to top the Billboard Hot 100 posthumously, and was nominated for the Best Rap Solo Performance Grammy at the 1998 awards. Every place this record has lived. A solid chip states a fact and carries the citation that earns it; a dashed one is a connection somebody drew, and carries their name instead.
