Momentum
This song has not appeared on a Rotation chart, so it has no score and no receipts. The rank history below is the ledger; a score is only published once the momentum run puts it on a chart.
Why it's here
Jagger wrote it as the Devil boasting of his role in historical atrocities, drawing on Baudelaire and Bulgakov's The Master and Margarita, an inspiration confirmed by Marianne Faithfull, who gave him the book. [1] Keith Richards suggested changing the tempo and adding percussion, transforming what began as a Dylan-style folk song into the hypnotic samba groove heard on the track. [2] The song's 'who who' backing vocal chant, sung by Jagger, Richards, Watts, Wyman, Jones, Faithfull, Pallenberg and photographer Michael Cooper, came about by accident in the studio and was largely captured on film by Jean-Luc Godard for his movie One Plus One.
