Momentum

This song has not appeared on a Rotation chart, so it has no score and no receipts. The rank history below is the ledger; a score is only published once the momentum run puts it on a chart.

Why it's here

Sub Pop released it as a limited 7" single to fan club members before signing the band in full, after positive press for the song made the group's debut album one of the most anticipated indie rock releases of 2001. [1] The song became a fixture of mid-2000s pop culture after Natalie Portman's character in Garden State (2004) declares it will 'change your life,' which helped the band's first two albums sell more than twice their prior totals. [2] Its music video, directed by Lance Bangs, has the band re-enacting the cover art of albums by Hüsker Dü, The Replacements, Sonic Youth, Slint, and others, filmed on location in Albuquerque and Portland. Every place this record has lived. A solid chip states a fact and carries the citation that earns it; a dashed one is a connection somebody drew, and carries their name instead.
