"Africa" topped the Billboard Hot 100 for the week of February 5, 1983, and remains Toto's only US No. 1 single. [1] Toto was in the middle of a 32-date North American amphitheater tour with Christopher Cross and The Romantics that began July 15, 2026 in Bethel, NY, with "Africa" closing the band's setlist each night. [2] The song's catalog standing is documented by its RIAA Diamond certification and by the permanent solar-powered sound installation "Toto Forever," which artist Max Siedentopf set up in Namibia's Namib Desert to loop the track indefinitely. [3]
