Nobody Brought One Song
In August the ledger held the door for 190 songs on the main chart, and the ones that mattered almost never came alone.
Ninety-one names appeared on more than one charting record this month. Ninho pushed nine songs into the EARLY ON lane in four weeks; Bruno Mars placed five, Bad Bunny five, KAROL G five in four different configurations. The unit of an August success was not the single. It was the pile.
This pressing reads the month through four piles: the band that took the top of the chart with a pair and lent one of them out, two debuts that arrived as discographies instead of singles, a residency held so quietly it never once read as an event, and the old records — because in August even the ghosts charted in multiples.
Tame Impala took the month
2025Deadbeat came out on 17 October 2025; its songs owned August 2026. "Loser" and "Dracula" sat in the chart's top five together for nineteen days. And the February remix of "Dracula" with JENNIE — the first top-ten Hot 100 hit for Tame Impala and for her — carried the song into rooms psych-rock does not play. 2025Olivia Dean's The Art of Loving came out on 26 September 2025. Eleven months later, "Man I Need" and "So Easy (To Fall In Love)" each held the chart 22 of August's 26 days — fifty song-days, more than any other artist this month — while her Sam Fender duet "Rein Me In", from the deluxe edition of People Watching, surfaced through the undertow. Fleetwood Mac placed four songs, one of them breaking as a discovery fifty-one years after it was cut. And "Sign of the Times" reached No. 1 on the main chart nine years after release — the same week the ledger's standards floor comes down from twenty years to ten, which would make it nearly a standard.
